Stephen Harris Architects designed this custom oversized door for a private client. Its height presented significant fabrication challenges, chief among them creating a panel that was simultaneously flat, lightweight enough for the cantilevered design, and rigid enough to resist warping from welding and the door's many cutout openings.
Our solution eliminated welding entirely by building the door core from a solid aluminum sheet. The portholes are waterjet cut, and the handles and hardware are milled from solid aluminum. The result is a highly precise, stable door installed with exacting tolerances into the stone opening.
